Ok, so maybe you arent sure what the phrase “in view of a call” means, ( I know that it sounds kind of like the name of a James Bond movie- thanks to Jon Jenz for pointing that out) so here we go:
Historically, I cannot find anything yet to explain when the phrase came into usage, so I will have to stick to the practical application of the phrase for now. I am working on it.
Practically, it means that I have been through the process of interviewing with, meeting with, and getting to know the committee who was formed to search for a Campus Pastor for this church, including the Sr. Pastor over the entire FBC Tyler ministry, and they have recommended me for the job.
Then, they have asked me to come and preach on Sunday, Oct 16th at the 9am service. Next, it means that the congregation will vote to approve their recommendation pretty much immediately after I speak.
While I eat lunch with my wonderful wife and kids…
And then I get notified as to how many (or what percentage) voted to support their recommendation and how many voted against it. Based on the vote, they decide whether or not to “call” me into that role (“extend a call”).
Then I make the final decision whether or not to answer that call and thus accept the job/role or not.
I am really excited to see what God and His people (all of us) are doing and going to do with all of this…
This is all of the proof anyone would need to know that He is not a “Tame Lion” after all.
As far the my practice goes – one way or another, it will stay open. There are four brilliant therapists who work for and/or with me that will continue to see the majority of clients, though I will still be there one day a week long term as well.
Finally, I want to extend a warm invitation to anyone and everyone who might want to come by and listen and or pray for me and my family and the church wherever you are.
There is a lot to be pumped about and anxious about, but I am not going to use this article to talk about what is exciting about all of this and the opportunities here; I will save that for after Oct 16th, depending on what happens. You can see much of it for yourself at the website below.
You can get times and directions, and see what a cool campus it is at: http://www.fbctyler.org/sc
Thanks for praying.
So excited for you and your precious family!! Please know that I will be praying for you and wish I could be there for support. If I land back in Tyler after my term, I know where I will be attending! 😉
Wow, Chris! This is so exciting. I will certainly be praying for you and your family and the church as you walk this next possible adventure together!
maybe we can have time to write that book now…
Chris – I am excited for you and the church.
