  1. Chris, did you mean “cords” or “chords”? I assume you’ve seen the movie “amazing grace”, which isn’t really about the song, but then it is. It gives a much clearer description of what he (John Newton) really was involved in–what it was that he was in the nidst of when he was redeemed! now, every time I hear the song, it is so much more real to me. What I hear is “If God’s grace can cover him and rescue him from that, then how can I imagine that it would not cover me?!”
On a totally different note (ha) it is very refreshing to see an African American leader taking History as his Heritage!

  2. Chris –
Thanks for sharing the video. I assume that you liked the video, but as I read your comments I realized that they could be taken either way. Would you mind clarifying both of your comments? (No one understanding redemption & slave x slave x slave).

    1. Yeah – thanks – I dont want to be unclear…
This is an amazing picture of redemption! God taking a slave master from a slave ship using the slave chords… and creates one of the most amazing works of freedom and grace ever made by a man! I just never see in modern media anything even close. Friendship themes are common, and maybe even some forgiveness (rarely)… but pretty much never is anything or anyone redeemed. I dont mean literally the people arent redeemed – God is in the work of contatnly redeeming… what I mean is that it is a rare theme or aspect of a story told from today’s world.
God redeems the actual people all of the time, but it is rare for the theme of redemption to be seen, recognized or lauded in the culture.
