Christmas Movies Defined Definitively Part 2

Consider this kind of a Christmas movie bingo.  The more of these there are, the more likely the movie is to be a true Christmas movie:

So far:

  1.  comedy or epic with warm feelings at the end.
  2. things come together for the protagonist.
  3. new friendships are made.
  4. an old relationship is restored
  5. The “Grinch/Ebenezar” character must be redeemed or brought down.

Here are some more items to add to these…

  • The movie needs to be mostly or entirely set in the Christmas season.grfp.jpg

You should see:

  • Warm lighting, fireplaces, candles, tv’s with a fireplace on it, and other fires.
  • At least one Christmas party or family gathering.
  • Presents and various versions of people giving things to each other.
  • Festive clothes; dress clothes can be a version of this – black tie, nice dresses, GEoENqKTnKr6GWUypZcAGi-768-80.jpgexcellent suits, etc.
  • Christmas music should play regularly. In fact, in the best Christmas movies, the characters in the movie will actually sing Christmas music (loud for all to hear!)
  • Santa Claus and all things Santa Claus will appear. If he is not actually in the movie (or a  character might possibly be him) then, Santa accouterments will be evident.
  • The Christmas tree will play an important role. In key moments, the tree itself, or national-lampoons-christmas-vacation-ss1.jpgornaments, or cutting the tree will make a significant appearance.
  • Other Decorations will be around. This is part of the overall Christmas setting and party feel.  86cfe6f0eea9f9033ea313db2f8d2db6.jpgReds and Greens, BB guns, etc.
  • “Merry Christmas” is common; in today’s PC world, it might also include other B4DJe6CCAAATD8u.jpgHoliday wishes.`References to God’s blessings for mankind.  “And God bless us, everyone.”

Ok, so that completes my opinion piece on Christmas movies.   As is always good, it is a great idea to apply new learning.  I have impure motives for these articles – but then, in the end enjoyed the process… but here is the real motive:   Go here for immediate application of these concepts!

I would love to hear if there is anything I missed on this article. Obviously, and in other articles I have written, I embrace this:

We must always remember to take time in between the good (family, rest, generosity…) and the bad (hyper-materialism, greed, inebriation…) of all of the cultural things of Christmas and remember this:

“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Unlike the movies, which are fun and warm and encouraging in their messages, This message, from the angels for the shepherds, changes everything.
